I firmly believe that to harness the true power of iPads (and any other mobile computing device), we really create more “authentic”, task-based learning for our students. For our students to acquire those so called “21st century skills” (critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and communication, global awareness and information literacy), they need to be given more opportunites to “learn by doing”. Unfortunately, current curricula and assessments restrict this and changes need to be made. To make this change easier for teachers, I have proposed adding an extra P (publish) to the frequently used 3P (present, practice, produce) pedagogy. The extra P in the 4P model will hopefully allow for more “learning by doing”.

In her blog post, Assessment and iPadology, Ana Christina Pratas outlines how she uses different forms of assessment and publishing to make her iPad-based courses more effective.
